Seneca uses second half defense to pull away from Nevada

Jan. 17—Morgan Vaughn led the Indians of Seneca with 24 points as the boys basketball team earned a 57-41 victory over Nevada on Tuesday night at home.

Seneca held a slim lead after the first quarter and built on it in the second and third quarters to hold a 41-34 entering the final stanza.

The Indians tallied 16 more points in that last quarter and 7 came from Ethan Altic as he helped seal the game with a 3-pointer and a couple of free throws. Altic finished with 13 to join Vaughn in double figures.

Vaughn scored 8 points in the opening period with two shots coming from beyond the arc.

Brice Budd tallied 15 points to lead the Tigers.

After scoring 15 points in the second quarter, Nevada was held in check for the entire second half only adding 15 more for the last two quarters.

Seneca is on a three-game winning streak now and all three of those games are in Big 8 Conference action. The Indians are now 8-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Nevada is 8-6 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Both teams play in the Frontenac (Kan.) tournament later this week.
