Seneca duo ink with Lion football

Feb. 28—SENECA, Mo. — The Missouri Southern football recruiting class grew by two Wednesday as Seneca's Jackson Marrs and Ethan Altic signed letters of intent to play for Coach Atiba Bradley next year.

The pair will be joining Seneca linebacker Morgan Vaughn on the list of Lion recruits. Vaughn's signing came earlier this month when Bradley announced his first 44 signees and told fans that he hoped recruiting quality players from Southwest Missouri would provide stability for the program.

"They (MSSU) are getting three very good football players," Seneca Football Coach Cody Hilburn said of Vaughn, Marrs and Altic. "But more than anything they are getting three high-character kids that are going to come in and work extremely hard."

Marrs and Altic said they want to be a part of a program on the rise under Bradley.

"He's only been there a couple of years and I like the culture he has brought there," Marrs said of Bradley. "He's trying to get butts in seats and get the student body back into it. I really like how he has turned things around. I'm going to bring everything I can. I'm going for running back, but if that's not what he (Bradley) sees, I'll do whatever he needs."

Altic also talked about how Bradley weighed into his decision to sign with Southern.

"I really love the guy," Altic said. "I love a coach with passion and a heart to win that is going to be there for his athletes. I love a winner and I love to win and that is what I think he is doing with the program."

Altic, who hopes to play defensive back or wide receiver, also said the facilities, environment and the fact that it is close to home helped sway his decision.

"Our kids are getting in at the right time," Hilburn said. "I think Coach Bradley is going to be there for a long time and I think we are going to see that program go on to do really good things."
