Senators pay special tribute to Bob Cole in last Ottawa game
Few broadcasters throughout the NHL’s history have had an impact like Bob Cole. Entering his 50th and final season in the booth, the long-time voice of Hockey Night in Canada has lent his call to some unforgettable hockey moments.
It is still very early in the 2018-19 season, but Saturday’s matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators marks the last time the legendary broadcaster is scheduled to call a game from the nation’s capital.
Prior the game, the Senators organization offered a classy tribute to one of the sports’ best and most legendary play-by-play announcers.

An absolutely incredible way to honour Cole. Even for non-Sens fans, it is hard to not get even a little nostalgic watching back some of those incredible moments.
And the stick-tap from the players to the broadcast booth was a very nice touch.
Prior to the season, the storied announcer was scheduled by Sportsnet to call 10 games — all in the first half of the season. So with this solid precedent set, we should soon see many special tributes to honour the legendary voice. Sportsnet itself has a tribute planned for Cole, which will run later in the season.
Cole’s voice has become synonymous with a Saturday night in Canada over the last half century.
It will be strange when the day his voice will no longer be set to hockey games does indeed come.
