Summer Camp at Citi Field brought another sim game for the New York Mets on Thursday, with Jacob deGrom looking strong on the mound, and Yoenis Cespedes going yard to left.
It was borderline unfair, the way Phil Mickelson walloped the entire field in his Champions Tour debut. Mickelson dusted everything in his wake at the Charles Schwab Series at Ozark National, posting scores of 61-64-66 to finish four strokes clear of the field for an easy wire-to-wire win. Mickelson turned 50 over the summer, making him eligible to join the tour circuit, and he did what 20 others coming straight from the PGA Tour have done: won right out of the gate.
Becton is 6-feet-7 and 370 pounds and the image next to Crowder, a wide receiver, is nothing short of astounding. Check out the image that is going viral: It looks like Becton, who played college ball at Louisville, is standing next to someone on a Pop Warner team, not an NFL wideout. I was definitely insecure growing up,” Becton told ESPN last week.
Laura Stockton sounds perfectly happy to ride buses around Germany if it means she gets to play professional basketball. The 23-year-old daughter of retired Utah Jazz great John Stockton spent the past year-plus rehabbing an ACL injury that ended her collegiate career at Gonzaga. Stockton has signed her first professional contract to play for Herner TC in the German league.
The Los Angeles Rams made a handful of moves Tuesday, the most notable of which was waiving quarterback Josh Love. Along with Love, they cut linebacker Bryan London. To take their roster spots, the Rams brought back Daniel Bituli, who they originally signed as an undrafted rookie this year, and added linebacker Derrick Moncrief, who went undrafted in 2017 and spent some time in the CFL.
There are people who will watch the games because they are college football, but some of these are not exactly appetizing matchups … even if you attend the schools. Here is ESPN's lineup for the “Week 0” and “Week 1” of the college football season. The highlight is Monday's BYU-Navy game.
The 31-year-old Brantly, a career . hitter in six seasons, had no hits in three at-bats in his only game with the Giants this season. He also appeared in only one game in 2019, with Philadelphia.
The onerous task at hand for Tiger Woods is two-fold. One, he likely needs to finish fourth or better this week in the BMW Championship to advance to next week's Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the FedEx Cup Playoffs finale. “I have to play well,” Woods said Wednesday with an emphasis on the second word.
Serena Williams likened the frustration she felt in Tuesday's shock defeat by Maria Sakkari at the Western and Southern Open to that of being stuck in a bad relationship. Williams' 5-7 7-6(5) 6-1 loss in the round of 16 was a big blow to her preparations for next week's U.S. Open, where the 38-year-old is bidding for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title. It was a second exhausting three-setter in as many rounds for Williams, who squandered the opportunity to close out the contest on serve in the second set before her Greek opponent launched a comeback.
The Chicago Bears suffered a significant blow to their offense on Wednesday as running back David Montgomery left practice on a cart after suffering a non-contact injury to his leg, according to multiple Bears beat reporters. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports Montgomery took a handoff and immediately went to the ground when he attempted to cut upfield. Bears head coach Matt Nagy is expected to provide an update later this afternoon.
Out of all of the NFL's rules, which would Bill Belichick most like to change? If it were up to the New England Patriots head coach, there wouldn't be so many discrepancies between the NFL and college football rulebooks. For example, defensive pass interference penalties in college are only up to 15 yards while NFL pass interferences gift the offense a first down and the spot of the foul.
Retired NFL star Eli Manning has thrown his New Jersey home up for sale, asking $5.25 million for the luxury digs. The former New York Giants quarterback renovated and restored the six-bedroom, five-bathroom 1904 Georgian Revival in Summit, Realtor reports, after scoring the space for $4.7 million in 2014. For just over a cool $5 million, you and your team can live like football royalty in the 9,000 square-foot brick estate on over an acre.
Joe Burrow blazing through the Cincinnati Bengals defense at training camp isn't exactly a stunning development anymore. While Burrow had a rough Sunday at times on the practice field near Paul Brown Stadium thanks to a tough pass rush, he seemed to turn it back around Monday. Burrow was on fire for most of the day, including at least one notable drive against the Bengals' first-team defense that ended in a beauty of a touchdown lob to Auden Tate.
One edge the Chicago Bears have in 2020 is their starting quarterback could remain a mystery until kickoff of Week 1. It will happen in practice, and it will be up to Matt Nagy if he wants to announce a starter for the opener against the Detroit Lions. The NFL's only true quarterback battle this month is a big deal in Chicago but mostly happening out of the spotlight.
Damien Harris is a player that every fantasy football owner should keep on their radar. The New England Patriots running back has an average draft position of 244, but has served as the lead back in training camp through a few weeks of work. There is a significant chance that Sony Michel, the lead running back, could start the season on the physically unable to perform list.
For Pittsburgh Steelers fans, this one is long overdue. But thankfully the Pro Football Hall of Fame has finally done the right thing and named former sports writer and Steelers scout Bill Nunn a finalist for the 2021 class of the HOF. Nunn was the Steelers assistant personnel director from 1970-1987.
The preseason NFL power poll from the folks at ESPN is now complete. The analysts from all the teams showed a little respect for the progress going on with the Detroit Lions. The poll ranks the Lions 25th out of the 32 NFL teams.
The Eagles believe they have their left tackle of the future in Andre Dillard and even after an offseason spent bulking up, the former first-round pick is still having his troubles. During a fully padded Eagles' practice on Wednesday morning, Carson Wentz was dropping back to pass when Dillard was bull-rushed back into the quarterback's knee by Joe Ostman. Brief scare at #Eagles camp: Joe Ostman bull rush drives Andre Dillard back into Carson Wentz and the QB is bent back.
It never ends well for Luis Suarez but the Uruguayan has always specialised in positive starts. An inglorious exit from Barcelona is inevitable. Every transfer – Groningen to Ajax, onward to Liverpool and eventually to Barca – has been driven by the player.
That's aggressive for a running back who had a miserable passing game role as a rookie. Jacobs maintained a seven percent share of the team targets when he was on the field and averaged a measly 1.5 catches per game. Among the top-24 scorers at the position in 2019, only Derrick Henry, Marlon Mack and Raheem Mostert averaged fewer.
Tiger Woods arrived at Olympia Fields for the first time in 17 years, this time with no one around to chase after his every move from the moment he stepped out of the car until he walked off the course. ''I swear, playing in front of all that, he gives up half a shot a day on the field.
