One of the most exciting moments for a team on the verge of the postseason is the celebration following the initial clinch. The Washington Nationals got to experience that on Tuesday night. But, they had to wait a few extra minutes.
After recording the final out in a 6-5 win over the Phillies, the Nats couldn't begin the dogpile and champagne showers just yet. In order for their ticket to be fully punched, they also needed the Pittsburgh Pirates to defeat the Chicago Cubs. When the Nationals game went final, that game was still in the top of the ninth with the Pirates leading 9-2.
So, the team and the faithful fans remained inside the ballpark and watched the final moment of that game on the jumbotron. Once the Pirates closed the book on the Cubs, the celebration began.

It's an exciting moment for a Nationals team that battled through plenty of adversity. In May, a 19-31 record made things look bleak. But a scortching hot second-half turned the tide. Through the ups and downs, the Nats are now on their way to playing in October.
