SEE IT: Newton grabs first receiving touchdown by Pats QB in team history originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The 2020 season has not been what Cam Newton or the New England Patriots have hoped for, but if Sunday was the last time Newton suited up for New England, he'll depart following a game in which he made team history.
On the receiving -- yes receiving -- end of a touchdown pass from Jakobi Meyers in the Patriots 28-14 win over the New York Jets, Newton became the first passer in team history to catch a touchdown.

Despite Tom Brady grabbing pretty much every record and achievement there is for the franchise, he never did make his mark in the receiving category. So much so that his missed opportunity in Super Bow LII has become a long-lasting meme for the quarterback.
So instead, it's Newton that is the first quarterback to catch a pass that resulted in six points. It was an overall strong day for the veteran, as he threw for 242 yards and compiled three touchdowns.
There's no guarantee New England brings back Newton next season after an inconsistent 2020 campaign, but he'll now always have a place in Patriots' lore.
