SEC Baseball Power Rankings: Wins all around the SEC

It’s no question which conference is the toughest in college baseball, and it was evident in Opening Weekend that it is the SEC.

Seven teams in the SEC were ranked in the first set of college baseball rankings, two teams were within the top three. Only one team didn’t finish the weekend with a winning record, while six teams finished 3-0.

While the SEC showed winning ways throughout the weekend, the conference went 9-5 on Opening Day, which tied a conference record.

Arkansas could have been one of those undefeated teams if it wasn’t for the TCU thumping in the College Baseball Showdown. Nonetheless, they remained in the top-ten of all the college baseball rankings.

LSU Tigers

Ask anybody with a valuable opinion about the LSU Tigers, and they’ll likely pick them to be National Champions. The Tigers opened the season with a three-game sweep over Western Michigan, outscoring their opponent 24-5.

Ole Miss Rebels

The Rebels swept the Blue Hens of Delaware, scoring double-digits in all three games. Next they have Arkansas State.

Tennessee Volunteers

The Volunteers had a tough time this past weekend finishing 1-2 at the MLB Desert Invitational in Arizona. Drew Beam saved the day with his shutout performance in six innings of work, leading the Vols to their first win.

Texas A&M Aggies

The Aggies went 3-0 in the season-opening series against Seattle University. Texas A&M has a chance to go through the month undefeated before they meet their first-ranked opponent, No.15 Louisville March 3rd.

Arkansas Razorbacks

After giving up 18 runs to an unranked opponent, the Hogs finished the College Baseball Showdown with 18 runs against a ranked opponent. You can go either way with that.

Florida Gators

The Gators dominated their opening series, outscoring Charleston Southern 37-5 in the three-game sweep.

Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt and Arkansas played the same teams in the College Baseball Showdown, and like Arkansas, they also lost to TCU.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama opened up the season against Richmond and ended it with a three-game sweep. Three up, three down.

South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gamecocks is the final undefeated team in our SEC power rankings and the only team in the conference to score 20 runs on opening day. Watch out for the Gamecocks.

Missouri Tigers

The Tigers went 2-1 in the College Baseball Showdown and were the only SEC team to defeat TCU. The Tigers won’t see another ranked opponent until March 17th when they host Tennessee.

Auburn Tigers

The Tigers aren’t expected to do much this season, but they got off to a good start against Indiana, winning the first two games of the series before losing the final game.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Mississippi State took on VMI on Opening Weekend and needed all three games to clinch the series.

Georgia Bulldogs

Unlike football season, the Bulldogs are at the bottom of our power rankings. They lost the season opener against Jacksonville State but captured the last two games thanks to back-to-back games scoring ten runs.

Kentucky Wildcats

The Wildcats rounds out the power rankings after their opening weekend against Elon. The Wildcats suffered defeat in the first game but capture the last two for their first series win of the season.
