On this day: Seahawks win first playoff game at the Kingdome on Christmas Eve in 1983 originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Christmas Eve is a fairly special time for a lot of people.

Whether it is gathering with family and friends for dinner, seeing old faces, or just sitting back and enjoying some time off to recharge, this day is a special one before gathering the next morning to open up some presents on Christmas Day.

But on this day in 1983, it was an important one for the Seattle Seahawks organization.

On Christmas Eve that year, the Seattle Seahawks secured their first-ever playoff victory in franchise history in the AFC Wild Card Game against the Denver Broncos.

In the game, Seahawks quarterback Dave Krieg went 12 for 14 passing with 200 yards and three touchdowns to Steve Largent, Pete Metzelaars and Paul Jones.

On the ground, running back Curt Warner had 23 attempts for 99 rushing yards in the 31-7 win.

The Seahawks defense also came in clutch with Kenny Easley leading the effort with 10 tackles and a sack.

Seattle would go on to play and win their next playoff game against the Miami Dolphins and Dan Marino in a 27-20 close game in the AFC divisional game.

Sadly, the Seahawks lost to the Los Angeles Raiders in the AFC championship, as their playoff run came to a close.

Although the Seahawks did not make it to the Super Bowl that year, it was a monumental victory for the organization to secure their first playoff win in front of 60,752 fans in the Kingdome.

Seahawks fans will have to wait till Sunday to see their team play for this holiday season, but it's always good to go down memory lane and revisit a memory like this.
