Seattle Seahawks defense shuts down Minnesota Vikings

On Friday night, the Seahawks used their strong defense to shut down the Vikings offense and won the game 20-13. Most of the Seahawks had excellent games and got valuable playing time. But the Seahawks were unable to remain healthy losing George Fant and Amara Darboh.

MVP: Russell Wilson

Wilson already looks ready for the regular season to start. He was able to pick apart a very talented Vikings defense and get the ball downfield. Wilson stood tall in the pocket and delivered the ball on time. He put the ball where only his receivers could catch it. He hit Doug Baldwin four times for sixty-yards, including a play where he was hit one-yard shy of a touchdown. Wilson finished 13/18 for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

LVP: Germain Ifedi/Ethan Pocic

As an offensive lineman, it is never a good thing to have your presence known during a game. But Ifedi and Pocic were both called out multiple times during the game. Ifedi did well in the run game, but struggled to keep pass rushers from getting past him. His transition from guard to tackle has shown that he has slow feet and can’t get through his pass steps fast enough. Pocic was unable to keep defenders from bull-rushing him into the quarterback’s lap. He also had multiple penalties, killing the momentum of drives. Overall, the right tackle position does not look good so far in the preseason.

Play of the Game:

After a Doug Baldwin 16-yard reception to get the ball to the one-yard line, the Seahawks were unable to score on their first and second down plays. On 3rd down, Wilson took the snap out of the shotgun formation. He lofted the ball to the right corner of the end zone, where Kasen Williams out jumped Vikings corner Marcus Sherels for the touchdown. This was Williams second outstanding grab of the game, and first touchdown of the preseason. This touchdown capped off an excellent 11 play, 77-yard opening drive for the Seahawks.

Next Up:

The Seahawks will stay home to play the Kansas City Chiefs at CenturyLink Field on Friday, August 25th at 5:00 PST.
