Seahawks Week 2 opposing QB preview: Titans’ Ryan Tannehill

For the first time since 2016, the Seattle Seahawks are welcoming quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the Emerald City. Only this time he will be a member of the Tennessee Titans.

Alongside quarterback Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill entered the league as part of the legendary 2012 quarterback draft class. Originally selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 8th overall selection, Tannehill never truly lived up to the hype one would expect of a player drafted at such a lofty position.

Tannehill’s six seasons on the South Beach were decent yet unremarkable. Eventually mounting injuries and mediocre play resulted in the Dolphins moving on and trading him to the Tennessee Titans in the 2019 offseason. The move proved to be a career-saver for Tannehill, who assumed the starting role when former Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was benched. Since then, Tannehill has been QB No. 1 in the Music City and has played the best football of his career.

Last season Tannehill threw a personal best 33 touchdown passes against only seven interceptions, with a passer rating of 106.5 – the second-highest of his career. Despite being statistically one of the better signal callers in the league, many still doubt if Tannehill is legitimate.

The Seahawks would be wise to not think this way. When he is at his best, Tannehill is as good as any quarterback in the league. He has also beaten the Seahawks previously, and very nearly upset them in Week 1 of the 2016 season.

Tennessee’s offense is powered by running back Derrick Henry, but with Tannehill at the helm it is hardly a one-dimensional attack.
