Seahawks G Damien Lewis escapes major injury with lateral ankle sprain

The Seattle Seahawks struggled mightily in their 27-11 loss to the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. And to add insult to injury, all of Lumen Field watched as guard Damien Lewis was fitted with an air cast and carted off the field.

All indications at the time were that Lewis had suffered a major leg injury.

It wasn’t until his postgame press conference that coach Pete Carroll was able to provide an updated status for Lewis, who by then, had undergone an initial round of tests.

“D-Lew, we’re very fortunate,” Carroll told reporters after the matchup. “He had a lateral ankle sprain out of the deal. Got rolled up on and all that. All the X-rays and stuff were negative. Very fortunate there. He was upbeat about that a little bit.

“Maybe surprised by the results but we’re thrilled by it as well.”

No particular timeline was given for Lewis’ return.
