Seahawks considered picking Zach Charbonnet even earlier
The Seattle Seahawks had yet another successful draft. Their 2023 class is enough to get fans across the Pacific Northwest excited. However, perhaps their most controversial selection of the weekend was UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet in the second round.
Folks who were upset quickly brought up the fact Seattle drafted star rookie Kenneth Walker III in the second only last year. For those who are still frustrated at the move, maybe this is not the article you want to read… as the Seahawks apparently considered taking Charbonnet even earlier.
Schneider says they thought about taking Zach Charbonnet at 37 and choice there was between him and Derick Hall. Decided on Hall and were pleased/surprised to see Charbonnet still there at 52.

Taking a running back in the second round is high capital to spend on the position, but Charbonnet is a quality player who is bound to help improve Seattle’s offense. Especially when you consider how much of a premium the Seahawks place on establishing the run.
There’s also another factor at play here: Kenneth Walker III and DeeJay Dallas were the only running backs on the roster, and Dallas’ contract expires next offseason. Running back depth was about to be a considerable issue and it needed to be addressed in the draft. So, why not take an impact player who the team loves as early as they want?
