Scottsdale mayor isn't happy with Floyd Mayweather's partying at packed nightclub

Video has emerged showing boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. among those partying in a packed nightclub without wearing a mask. The mayor of Scottsdale, Arizona — the location of the nightclub — is not happy.

The video of Mayweather came via TMZ over the weekend, and he can be seen dancing with a number of people with no protective gear at Scottsdale’s International Boutique Nightclub.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey allowed some restaurants in the state to re-open their doors two weeks ago, but with significant social distancing restrictions that the nightclub clearly isn’t following.

Two days later, Scottsdale mayor Jim Lane released a statement blasting the partying seen in the surrounding area over Memorial Day weekend. Scottsdale’s Maricopa County reported 68 new coronavirus cases from Monday to Tuesday, with 8,448 total cases and 368 deaths.

While the statement does not mention Mayweather by name, it was given to TMZ as a direct response to a request for comment about Mayweather.

Lane said he found the activity “disturbing” and showing a “real lack of common sense”:

The images from Old Town Scottsdale this weekend are disturbing, and frankly show a real lack of common sense and civic responsibility. Businesses and their patrons need to realize that individually we each play an absolute part in our own personal hygiene, distancing and health courtesies, and each of us also plays a significant part in our city’s health, both physically and economically.

Lande added that he will personally reach out to businesses that were shown to be open with large crowds, which could include the nightclub.

The crowded partying Mayweather took part in wasn’t limited to Scottsdale, as such behavior was seen across the country during Memorial Day weekend.
