What is it?

Arguably the biggest Six Nations game of the weekend. Unbeaten Wales are still on for the Grand Slam with two games remaining. And first up they must take down Scotland in Edinburgh... no easy task.

Indeed, in 2017 at Murrayfield, Wales saw a four-point interval advantage spectacularly unravel as Scotland scored 20 unanswered second-half points to triumph 29-13, with fly-half Finn Russell kicking 19 points.

When is it?

Saturday, March 9.

What time is kick-off?

2.15pm.

What TV channel is it on?

BBC.

What are the current standings?

What is the latest squad news?

Scotland

Scotland have been boosted by the return of a host of players as they look to arrest their losing run.

Stand-off Finn Russell joined up with his international team-mates on Monday morning after returning to action with Racing 92 at the weekend having missed the 27-10 defeat by France with concussion.

Forwards Hamish Watson, WP Nel, Sam Skinner and Grant Stewart are back in the squad along with Glasgow centre Stafford McDowall.

Matt Fagerson and Byron McGuigan - who missed out on the initial squad through injury - and London Irish prop Gordon Reid also come in.

Stuart Hogg will not be back for the visit of Wales on Saturday as he continues to receive treatment for the shoulder injury that forced him off early against Ireland in Scotland's second game of the tournament.

Eight players have dropped out of the squad. Scrum-half George Horne (shoulder), prop D'arcy Rae (ankle), hooker George Turner (concussion) and centre Chris Dean (back) miss out through injury while prop Alex Allan, back-row forwards Rob Harley and John Hardie and stand-off Duncan Weir have been allowed to return to their clubs.

Wales

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has made one change to his starting line-up. Ospreys lock Adam Beard replaces Cory Hill, who will miss the rest of the tournament after suffering an ankle injury during Wales' 21-13 victory over England 10 days ago.

Scarlets forward Jake Ball takes Beard's place on the bench, with Gatland announcing the team for Murrayfield 48 hours earlier than initially planned.

Although full-back Leigh Halfpenny continued his comeback for the Scarlets three days ago after suffering concussion in November, Gatland has retained Ospreys centre Owen Watkin as the outside back on replacement duty.

Replacements

Dee, N Smith, Lewis, Ball, Wainwright, A Davies, Biggar, Watkin

What happened in this fixture in 2018?

A bad day for Scotland, but for Wales it was a dream start to the 2018 Six Nations as they crushed the visitors in a bonus-point win at the Principality Stadium.

Gareth Davies and Leigh Halfpenny crossed for early tries. And after the break Halfpenny completed a 24-point haul with two penalties and a second try before Steff Evans dived over for the bonus-point score.

The visitors only managed a 79th-minute consolation try from Peter Horne.

Warren Gatland claimed his 50th win as Wales coach in a match that marked the 10th anniversary of his first match in charge. It was also Wales' 50th win in the expanded Six Nations tournament.

What are they saying?

Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards does not need reminding about what happened in 2017:

"We are fully aware that the last time we went up there, they definitely did a great job on us.

"Finn Russell was absolutely outstanding that day. They controlled the second half, and we definitely got on the wrong side of the referee that day as well.

"So we are very determined to go up there and give a better account of ourselves than we did in the second half two years ago.

"It's a while since we have actually been three (wins) from three, but we are fully aware of Scotland's threat.

"A couple of their players have said they don't feel they have been at their best so far in the campaign, and we feel that we are still improving as well, so hopefully our best rugby is yet to come.

Jonny Gray admits watching Sotland's defeat by France and accepting harsh truths meant their Paris pain extended throughout last week:

"Last week was a tough week, a real low feeling.

"We under-performed against France, we all know that. We didn't show up on the day. All credit to France, they played very well, but there were a lot of things we under-performed in.

"We had a look at it, had meetings together and individually, had two good training sessions, so that was good to get back. But it was a tough week.

"We have been brutally honest and it was tough to watch but the best thing to do is get back in training.

"It's not always nice to take but if we want to win and make our country proud, you have to do that."

What are the betting odds?

  • Scotland to win 7/4

  • Wales to win 4/7

  • Draw 22/1

What is our prediction?

Predicted score: Scotland have been hit hard by injuries but the return of key personnel will make them much stronger. Plus they're at home. Wales are the better team, but home advantage for the Scots will mean so much, as will the return of Finn Russell. Also, will the Welsh players be distracted by news of domestic upheaval? Predicted score: Scotland 21 Wales 23.
