School day fun at the Outpost Ice Arenas

Feb. 2—In a first for the organization, the New Mexico Ice Wolves hockey team hosted a School Day Matinee game for students across the metro area on Friday.

A mix of high school and elementary school students packed the stands at the Outpost Ice Arenas to watch the North American 3 Hockey League team take on its Southern Division rival, the El Paso Rhinos.

For many of the students in attendance, it was the first hockey game they had ever seen live.

"They're getting into it. They're cheering," Ice Wolves owner and Team President Stan Hubbard said. "It's a wonderful experience for kids in Albuquerque who have not had the exposure to ice sports."

Those in attendance got to see the Ice Wolves don their Ronald McDonald House charity jerseys as well, which will be auctioned off to fans, with all proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House of New Mexico.

The Ice Wolves' higher level NAHL team was also in action Friday night, hosting the Shreveport Mudbugs. Those two teams are back in action Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Outpost Ice Arenas.
