SC High School League proposes region realignment, here's what that looks like for schools
The South Carolina High School League has released its proposal for region realignment from 2022 to 2024. That affects a large amount of teams across every classification and shakes up a lot of football schedules for the coming years.
But this is not set in stone – the Classifications Executive Committee will hear appeals from schools from Jan. 24-26 where they are able to appeal any realignment changes that affect them.
The proposed realignment, which may not see a ton of changes between now and February, is set in stone on Feb. 22 when the SCHSL sends out the finalized realignment and reclassification information to schools, according to a proposed timeline sent out by the SCHSL.
Of note in the Upstate: Byrnes, Gaffney, Spartanburg, Boiling Springs and Dorman will all compete in the same region, according to the proposal. Wade Hampton and Riverside dropped down to the AAAA classification, while Travelers Rest will drop to AAA.
Southside Christian is not moving up from Class A. St. Joseph's and Christ Church both dropped down to Class A, in a move that may create a ton of Upstate competition between the three schools.
Of note too in Rock Hill: Northwestern will drop down to AAAA. And Berea will move up, to Class AAAA.
