Saturday's Top Prep Performers: Camarillo beats Rio Mesa to win Nordhoff Tournament title

Highlights from Saturday in high school winter sports:

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Tournament MVP Tyler Hook scored 24 points, Jackson Yeates had 10 points, Ty Chisholm had eight points, and Spencer Clausen added six points as Camarillo (6-3) defeated rival Rio Mesa 54-45 to win the championship game of the 80th annual Nordhoff High Tournament. All-tournament selection Jackson Knowles scored 20 points and Rohan Stankey had 12 points for the Spartans (4-2).

  • Cayden Budlong had 12 points and seven rebounds, John Roman finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Josh Jackson had six points and six rebounds for Nordhoff in its 47-43 loss to Bishop Diego at the 80th annual Nordhoff High Tournament.

  • Jaimie Soto scored 14 points, all-tournament selection Isaac Weslow had 11 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, three steals and two assists, and Joey Ocegueda had six points and three rebounds for Fillmore in its 75-39 loss to San Marcos at the 80th annual Nordhoff High Tournament.

  • Tournament MVP Blake Jones scored 21 points, Aayaan Ahmed followed with 19 points and Trey Lucas had 13 points as Newbury Park (4-2) defeated Pacifica 77-70 in the championship game of the NEV Tournament at Vaughn High. Steven Pillado hit nine 3-pointers and finished with 28 points, Isaiah Dillon had 21 points and nine assists, and Richard Miranda scored 11 points for the Tritons (6-1).

  • Austin Maziasz finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds, Kayden Elsokary had 19 points and four assists, Danny Bao scored nine points, and Aidan Delavari added five rebounds and five assists as Westlake (6-2) edged Simi Valley 60-56 on the final day of the Bob Hawkins Showcase at Simi Valley High. Ryder Mjoen scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Pioneers.

  • Troy McGovern finished with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists, all-tournament selection Stevie Prudholme scored 17 points, and Isayah Garcia had 15 points and six assists for Oaks Christian in its 96-63 loss to Clovis West on the final day of the Bob Hawkins Showcase at Simi Valley High.

  • Ventura lost to Chaminade 59-52 on the final day of the Bob Hawkins Showcase at Simi Valley High.

  • Dylan Benner scored 18 points, Jeremy Goodcase had 13 points, Michael Duran had 10 points, Jaden Whitehead had nine points, and Sam Seiden finished with seven points and eight assists to lead St. Bonaventure (4-2) to a 76-35 victory over St. Genevieve.

  • Jose Valdovinos scored 23 points, David Alvarez had 16 points and JJ De Santiago had 15 points to lead Santa Paula (4-1) to a 58-54 victory over Canyon.

  • JD Pettit finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, Mark Perez Jr. had 11 points, Andy Pimental had six points and nine rebounds, and Julian Espinoza had six points, four assists and three steals to lead Santa Clara (2-6) to a 44-42 victory over Eastside.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • All-tournament selection Kai Staniland scored 20 points, all-tournament selection Skyler Knight had 16 points, and Emily Rea contributed eight points for Ventura (3-1) in its 59-50 loss to Mira Costa in the championship game of the Westside Classic Tournament.

  • Sara Cosio finished with 25 points and five assists, Milan Garcia had 13 points and five rebounds, and Sophia Fernandez added eight points and seven rebounds as St. Bonaventure (3-2) defeated Holy Martyrs 59-54 to finish 3-1 at the Bishop Diego Tournament.

  • All-tournament selection Aryanne Munoz scored eight points for Fillmore in its 24-18 loss to Thacher at the Bishop Diego Tournament.

  • Freshman Ava Seeger scored 32 points for Thousand Oaks in its 49-46 loss to Chatsworth.

GIRLS WRESTLING

  • Ventura placed third overall in the Raiderette Tournament at Channel Islands High. Ava Ramos won the 135-pound title. Haley Padilla (125), Emmie Fago (140) and Bela Smith (145) each finished second. Alexis Espinoza (170) and Sabrina Scott (190) each took third. Pluto Leroy (105), Bella Preudhomme and Chloe Preudhomme (130) each finished fourth. Eva Benson (105) and Emma Ramirez (190) each finished sixth. Corona won the team title and Shadow Hills was second.

BOYS WRESTLING

  • Pacifica finished 10th overall at the 32nd annual Newbury Park Invitational. Jason Ybarra placed third in his weight class, Nathaniel Dominguez took fifth and John Ramirez finished sixth. Brett Williamson of Moorpark took second in his weight class.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Alyssa Diaz scored two goals, Viviana Marmolejo had a goal and assist and Samantha Quinonez had an assist to lead Rio Mesa (3-0-0) to a 3-0 win over Barstow and Marmolejo scored two goals and Sofía Ramírez had an assist in a 2-0 win over Knight at the Winter Classic Tournament.
