Saquon Barkley full participant in Giants practice, available for Sunday

The New York Giants are 2-4 as they prepare to host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, and given that the NFC East (unlike the Cardinals’ NFC West) has been mediocre to this point — the co-leaders, Dallas and Philadelphia, come into their Week 7 meeting both at 3-3 — they’re not out of the mix yet.

So it seems a no-brainer that running back Saquon Barkley, now healthy, would be back in the lineup.

Only coach Pat Shurmur wants to keep his playing status a mystery.

‘I just choose not to tell you’

Via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, Shurmur gave media a comical answer on Friday on Barkely’s status.

“He’s available,” Shurmur said. “We’ll see if he’s back. If he is, he’ll be ready to go. I just choose not to tell you right now.”

Barkley suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; the Giants tweeted on Friday that Barkley was a full participant in practice; he also practiced fully on Thursday.

Tight end Evan Engram, who has been recovering from a sprained MCL, is also expected to be able to play on Sunday.

New York has scored just 24 points total over its last two games, losses to Minnesota and New England, and had 116 rushing yards combined in those games.

But you want us to believe you might not play Barkley, who had 237 rushing yards and 311 yards from scrimmage in 2.5 games before his injury and had a league-leading 2,028 yards from scrimmage in winning offensive rookie of the year in 2018?

Sure, Shurmur.
