Court record: Mom allegedly killed baby to fulfill 'the last of her sins'

PENNS GROVE - A Salem County woman said she was fulfilling "the last of her sins" when she allegedly killed her 5-month-old daughter, a court record says.

Kristhie I. Alcazar, 26, was arrested late Friday when police responded to her Penns Grove home and found her baby stabbed multiple times in the chest, according to the Salem County Prosecutor's Office.

Alcazar admitted to the murder and said she killed the baby "to fulfill the last of her sins, murder," said a statement giving probable cause for her arrest.

It said the mother "showed no remorse and stated she would not change any of the events surrounding the murder."

Alcazar also asserted to investigators that "she was of sound mind and not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol," the statement continued.

Penns Grove police went to Alcazar's upstairs apartment on Helms Cove Lane in response to an "open 911 call with audible disturbance in the background," the prosecutor's office said.

It said officers arrived to find the mother arguing with another person, whose name not released.

Police found the body of the infant with stab wounds to the "heart area," according to the probable cause statement.

"Multiple knives and additional weapons were recovered at the scene," the statement said.

"No other persons were injured," said the statement, which did not give the baby's name.

The child's father was not at the home at the time of the incident, the prosecutor's office said.

Alcazar was being held Monday in Salem County Jail on charges of murder and a weapons offense tied to the alleged use of kitchen knives during the attack.

The charges are only allegations, and Alcazar has not been convicted in the case.
