Saints’ head coach Sean Payton tests positive for COVID-19

The New Orleans Saints will be without head coach Sean Payton when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The team announced Friday Payton tested positive for Covid-19 and was immediately isolated. He has been fully vaccinated.

Per NFL protocols, Payton will be out for 10 days unless he meets the league requirements for a fully vaccinated individual to return to the team environment.

Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen will assume the duties of head coach. Payton will return to coach the game against the Miami Dolphins.

This is the second go-round for Payton with the COVID-19 virus.

Early on in the pandemic, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2020 after spending a weekend at Oaklawn Park racetrack in Arkansas.

Payton discussed his COVID-19 recovery in 2020 with USA Today. You can read that by clicking here.
