Saints expect to hear from Cardinals about Sean Payton

The Arizona Cardinals could be looking for a new head coach after this weekend. It appears that teams around the league expect the team to cut ties with coach Kliff Kingsbury after a bad season.

The biggest name in the coaching market is former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, but there is a complication. Payton, who retired after last season, is still under contract with the Saints through 2024.

If a team wishes to approach Payton about a job, the Saints must grant permission.

According to PFT’s Mike Florio, the Saints expect to hear from the Cardinals regarding Payton, which means that the belief is that Kingsbury will be fired.

Payton has spoken with the Denver Broncos, who fired Nathaniel Hackett before the end of the season.

The Cardinals are reportedly a team Payton has interest in coaching if there is vacancy.

We will find out Monday if the Cardinals decide to move on from Kingsbury.
