RV crash into overpass kills driver, closes northbound lanes of I-5 near Woodland

A driver died Monday after a large RV crashed into an overpass in a wreck that closed all northbound lanes on Interstate 5 near Woodland in Yolo County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The fatal crash was discovered about 11:10 a.m. by an officer assigned to the CHP Woodland Area Office. The single-vehicle crash was just south of County Road 17.

CHP investigators determined that the 2003 Monaco RV was heading north on I-5. The driver made an unsafe turn and the RV left the road and crashed into the County Road 17 overpass, the CHP said in a news release Monday evening.

The CHP did not release any further information about the driver. The Yolo County coroner will release the person’s name after the family has been notified. Nobody else was in the RV.

While the crash remained under investigation, officers did not believe alcohol or drugs were factors.

Caltrans said all of the highway’s northbound lanes were closed, announcing a full reopening at 3 p.m. Monday.

Investigators asked anyone with information to call the CHP Woodland Area office at 530-662-4685.
