Rutgers football is getting in early on Pennsylvania freshman linebacker Maurice Barnes
Maurice Barnes Jr. got his second offer from a Big Ten program offer on Friday. It may be early on in his recruitment but there are likely many more offers for Barnes from the Power Five conference.
Barnes has the look and size of a Big Ten linebacker despite being a freshman in high school. On Friday, Rutgers football joined Boston College and Kent State in offering Barnes. He also claims an offer from Michigan in late January.
Barnes is a 6-foot, 185-pound linebacker prospect who plays for Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, PA). In 11 games last year as a freshman, Barnes had 40 tackles and five tackles for a loss. He also had 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
Barnes tweeted about the Rutgers offer on Friday morning:

The 2024 Rutgers football recruiting class is off to a solid start with three commitments already in place. In November, three-star offensive lineman Kenny Jones from southern New Jersey became the first verbal to the class.
