Russell Wilson ‘definitely making progress’ 2 weeks after finger surgery

The Seattle Seahawks will play without their starting quarterback Russell Wilson for at least two more games. After undergoing surgery about two weeks ago on his throwing hand, Wilson was placed on the team’s injured reserve list. Now he won’t be eligible to return to the active roster until Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers after the bye.

Asked today about Wilson’s status, head coach Pete Carroll said that Wilson is definitely making progress since his surgery. However, he would not say how realistic it is if Wilson will be starting again after only missing the minimum number of games.

Seattle’s backup QB Geno Smith has been serviceable enough in the five quarters that Wilson has missed to date. He’s completed 33 of 49 passes (67.3%) but is only averaging 6.9 yards per attempt and has a 34.7 QBR.

As for potential replacements, the Seahawks have spoken with Cam Newton more than once and worked out Blake Bortles, but so far Danny Etling and Jacob Eason are the only QBs they’ve added since Wilson’s injury.
