Rusk softball, baseball teams win big at home

Mar. 6—RUSK — Lady Eagle Softball eased past Chapel Hill's Lady Bulldogs 19-3 (3 innings, mercy rule) while the Eagle nine picked up an 8-1 decision over Frankston in a pair of home diamond affairs for Rusk Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles ran their record to 14-5-2 with the win and now have a few days off before traveling to Carthage on March 12.

Head coach Trent Montgomery's Eagles are slated to travel to Chapel Hill Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Softball: Rusk 19, Chapel Hill 3

Aubrey Hassel clubbed three doubles in a 3-3 night at the plate to ignite Rusk. She also drove in four runs.

Another Lady Eagle to collect four RBI was Kilgore College-signee Kennzie Norton. Norton went 2-3 and stroked a triple.

Courtney Chandler had a three-hit evening and drove in a pair of runs while Sarah Boudreaux went 2-3 with a double and a RBI.

Eight Lady Eagles had at least one hit in the game.

Madison Downs was the winning pitcher for Rusk. She tossed 2.2 frames and allowed three runs, all earned, on just one hit. Downs fanned one and issued five free passes.

Baseball: Rusk 8, Frankston 1

Rusk was able to parlay seven hits with 10 walks in throttling Frankston, 8-1.

Alex Patterson went 3-4 at the dish and ripped two doubles and drove in a pair of runs.

Ross Davis, Kade Blankinship, Tilton Beard and Hunter Moore each had a base hit and a RBI.

Mason Trowbridge picked up the win on the mound for Rusk. He pitched five innings and didn't allow a run while giving up two hits. Trowbridge fanned five and walked two.
