Rusk scores 7-late runs to get past Cumberland Academy, 9-2

Mar. 13—RUSK — The Rusk Baseball Eagles chalked up their second win in as many days Tuesday by taking down the visitors from Cumberland Academy, 9-2.

The game was tied, 2-2 after four innings of play.

Rusk (9-7-2) got down to business with the sticks in the late frames and out scored the Knights, 7-2, the rest of the way to earn the win.

Although the Red and Black were only able to muster up four hits, they did take advantage of six Cumberland Academy miscues in the field and six walks issued by Knight pitchers.

Mason Trowbridge went 2-3 at the plate and drove in a run while Tilton Beard stroked a double and had a RBI.

Kody Blankinship accounted for Rusk's remaining hit.

Carter Holland picked up an RBI for the Eagles, who are scheduled to visit Lindale for a 7 p.m. game Wednesday.

Karson King pitched 4.1 innings for the Red and Black and didn't allow an earned run while giving up two hits, fanning five and walking four.

Rusk's Alex Patterson worked 2.2 frames on the mound and allowed one run (unearned) on three hits. He struck out one and issued two base on balls.
