The Rush: Raiders’ Carl Nassib comes out as gay, NCAA suffers blow from Supreme Court
Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib becomes the first active NFL player to come out as gay, the NCAA is dealt a big blow by the Supreme Court and an HBCU considers adding hockey to its roster of programs.

CARL NASSIB: What's up, people? I'm Carl Nassib. I'm at my house here in Westchester, Pennsylvania. Just want to take a quick moment to say that I'm gay. I've been meaning to do this for a while now. But I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest.
JARED QUAY: It was a historic day for the NFL on Monday. Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib had an important message for the world.
CARL NASSIB: I'm a pretty private person, so I hope you guys know that I'm really not doing this for attention. I just think that representation and visibility are so important. I actually hope that one day, videos like this, and the whole coming out process, are just not necessary.
JARED QUAY: He is the first active NFL player to come out as gay. In doing so, he pledged $100,000 to the Trevor Project, a nonprofit that helps with suicide prevention in the LGBTQ community. The NFL responded to Nassib's post with quote "we are proud of you, Carl," end quote.
And man, are they telling the truth. We are all proud of you. In other good news. We are one step closer to seeing the parasitic NCAA die a painful death. The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the NCAA act could no longer limit educational benefits for its student athletes.
Unanimous. And those people never fully agree on anything. And on July 1, a number of states will allow student athletes to begin earning money on their name, image, and likeness.
- And that's where the big bucks start rolling in.
JARED QUAY: And finally, more inspiring sports news as HBCU Tennessee State is considering adding men's and women's ice hockey to its roster programs. That would be the first HBCU to have an ice hockey program, and also the first DI NCAA program in the state of Tennessee.
Youth hockey has exploded in the state and a decision shall come sometime in the fall. And personally, I'm excited for this, not only because it's hockey at a HBCU, because the band gets to perform twice now. And there's going to be more Black people playing hockey, which I always thought we should, man.
If you put DeSean Jackson and Usain Bolt on a hockey team, ain't No way we ain't taking the gold. Canada, this is our sport now.
