The Rush: The cast of 'The Tomorrow War' on what football would look like in 2051, the Detroit Lions and more!

Chris Pratt, Sam Richardson and Edwin Hodge discuss their new movie, the game of football in 2051, the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks and so much more.

Video Transcript

SAM RICHARDSON: I've been a Detroit fan for 37 years. I'm not going to put a curse on us-- another curse on us and be like, it's going to be longer than that. Because if it happens in three years, or if it happen in two years, or if it happens in 10 years, I don't want a clip of me to be like, it's not going to happen till 2051.

JARED QUAY: What's up, everybody? I'm here with the stars of "The Tomorrow War," Chris Pratt, Edwin Hodge, and Sam Richardson.

In your film "The Tomorrow War," future humans come back to interrupt a World Cup match. Is that because people in the future really don't like soccer? Because they wouldn't do that at an NFL game, right?

CHRIS PRATT: Well, exactly, they wouldn't do it at an NFL game. There's a real answer to this which is we needed something that the entire world would be tuned into, and it would have to be either something like the Olympics or a World Cup match. If it was the NFL, all of America would be watching, but no one in Europe, or Brazil, or anywhere else.

JARED QUAY: So, Sam, in this film-- you normally play comedy. This is your first time stepping into an action film. Did you do your own stunts?

SAM RICHARDSON: I did a lot of my own stunts actually, and I still am playing a lot of comedy in this movie, too.

- Well, it was nice knowing you.

SAM RICHARDSON: I injured myself running in this movie. I tore a hamstring, and then I tore another hamstring, and so [INAUDIBLE] had to do some running for me. But I did a lot of my own stunts as well.

JARED QUAY: And you're a Detroit Lions fan. And in this movie, y'all all go to the future, and so I want to ask you, if you did get to the future, is there a year that the Detroit Lions won the Super Bowl from now to 2,051?

SAM RICHARDSON: Oh, I hope that year is 2023. I've been a Detroit fan for 37 years. I'm not going to put a curse on us-- another curse on us and be like, it's going to be longer than that. Because if it happens in three years, or if it happen in two years, or if it happens in 10 years, I don't want a clip of me to be like, it's not going to happen until 2051. Then I can't go home.

- Yeah.

JARED QUAY: You're alma mater of Wayne State University-- so is former Lions running back Joique Bell. Is he your favorite Lion of all-time?

SAM RICHARDSON: He's one of them. I love Joique Bell very much. I was always so excited to see him out there. Barry Sanders is my favorite Lion of all-time, Megatron maybe second, Matt Stafford third.

JARED QUAY: Matt Stafford's third?

SAM RICHARDSON: I love Matt Stafford very, very much. He didn't get the respect he deserved when he was there. He got it later on when he was a little older. I love him.

JARED QUAY: Chris, you played in high school, and you're a big Seahawks fan. And obviously, the game in the last 10 years changed with safety. And let's say in 2,051, we weren't fighting aliens. What would the game of football look like? Would it be flags? Would we still have tackle football?

CHRIS PRATT: You know what? I think they're going to come to realize that helmets have not actually made us safer, because the helmet itself becomes a weapon. So they're going to actually just take helmets off. And they're going to take helmets off, and they're going to be like, listen, if you guys want to bang your heads together, go ahead. But these dudes will be like, I'm not banging my head into his head. I ain't I got a helmet on. And they're like, exactly.

JARED QUAY: Chris, Edwin, and Sam, thank you so much for Rushing with me today, and, you guys, make sure you check out "The Tomorrow War" now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Take care, fellas. Have a nice day.
