Rumor: Warriors would listen to trade offers for James Wiseman

With a busy offseason ahead, the Golden State Warriors would reportedly listen to trade offers for rookie James Wiseman if it meant acquiring an All-Star-type of player in the process.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Warriors are not currently looking to trade Wiseman. However, if a high-level player was a part of a potential trade offer or one would become available, the Warriors would listen to those conversations.

A league source told HoopsHype that while Golden State is not looking to trade James Wiseman, they would listen if an All-Star player was on the table and one becomes available this summer in potential trade talks.

On Monday, Warriors president Bob Myers said the team has no plans of trading Wiseman and expects the second overall pick to be on the roster next season. He is currently rehabbing from a knee injury, but is expected to be ready for the start of training camp next season.

“I expect him to be on the team next year,” Myers said. “We don’t want to trade James Wiseman. I think he is a tremendous talent. He was put in a position where the guy has, hopefully, taken all of his lumps early in his career. I think he can be very helpful to us in the future, and I think he can be helpful in the present. We plan on him being on the team. We are very confident he is going to be a good player and help us win next year.”

Of course, that stance could change should another team present the Warriors with an offer they cannot refuse. The Warriors, after losing in the play-in tournament, certainly need additional help to make a playoff run and a player like Wiseman could net the team some strong pieces in return.

Wiseman appeared in 39 games for the Warriors this season, averaging 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 51.9% from the field. He finished seventh in scoring average and third in rebounding among all rookies.

While he endured some ups and downs, Wiseman still flashed his potential in spurts throughout the season. While his future in the Bay may not be certain, he figures to have a bright future ahead.
