Rumor: Robbie Anderson could be targeted by Browns in Baker Mayfield trade

Based on reports, the Cleveland Browns could finally have a resolution to their relationship with QB Baker Mayfield. While nothing is certain, rumors persist that the Carolina Panthers could end up finalizing a trade for the Browns former starter.

The Panthers traded for Sam Darnold last year but saw him struggle greatly. They added Matt Corral in the 2022 NFL draft but few believe he is ready to compete for the starter job right away. With Matt Rhule entering his third season, winning is a priority and Mayfield would give them the best chance.

The holdup, since the NFL draft, has reportedly been around his contract. What had not been discussed is what specific compensation Cleveland would receive in return.

No matter what the trade is, Carolina WR Robbie Anderson made it clear that he didn’t want to play with Mayfield. Earlier this week, Anderson tweeted and then deleted that he was considering retiring.

Now, Josina Anderson mentioned Anderson as a possible candidate to join the Browns. Josina Anderson talks about Deshaun Watson and Mayfield below but mentions Robby Anderson near the end of this video:

A six-year pro, Anderson had his best season in Carolina in 2020 with 1,096 yards after three straight years with the New York Jets where he averaged 14.9 or more yards per reception. If traded, his contract would be reasonable for one season but jumps significantly in 2023.

As negotiations continue, it will be interesting if Cleveland is interested in Anderson more than draft capital in return for Mayfield.

A lot of smoke surrounding the Browns and Panthers at this point but there are no reports that a deal is imminent or that Anderson is likely to be involved if a deal is consummated.
