Royals stumble in the 9th; lose 2nd straight to Twins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Late inning struggles cost the Kansas City Royals for the second straight game against the Minnesota Twins.

It looked like the Twins would get on the board first in the top of the 4th inning when they had runners on first and second with one out. Carlos Correa hit the ball to right field before MJ Melendez made an outstanding diving catch.

The Royals saw themselves get on the board first in the bottom of the 6th inning after a Melendez RBI single brought in Bobby Witt Jr. from second base to go up 1-0.

The Twins responded in the 8th inning when a Byron Buxton double scored Edouard Julien to tie things up.

But they weren’t finished. Minnesota erupted in the 9th. They got things started with a Christian Vazquez single that drove in Ryan Jeffers.

They broke the game open after another Buxton double scored two more runs to go up 5-1, putting the Royals away.

Witt Jr. and Melendez both finished with two hits. Witt had one run and Melendez had the Royals lone RBI.
