Royals pitcher takes the wheel after team bus hit by large chunk of ice
The Kansas City Royals encountered a terrifying situation on their way to play the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday night. As the team was driving from the airport, a large chunk of ice crashed into one of the team busses.

The aftermath looked pretty scary.
If things weren’t going bad enough, a huge chunk of ice flew off one of the Royals’ team buses and slammed into the windshield of the other last night. The shards hit the bus driver and reliever Blaine Boyer had to grab the wheel. The driver was OK. pic.twitter.com/b1kdSxqDQG

The chunk of ice shattered the bus’ windshield, cutting the driver. That’s when reliever Blaine Boyer stepped in, grabbing the wheel to help the driver slow the bus down.
While that sounds pretty heroic, Boyer downplayed his role in the incident. He gave all the credit to the team’s bus driver, Fred, for keeping his cool despite getting hit with glass from the windshield.
Blaine Boyer downplayed his role in helping the driver get the bus to the side of the road. He credited Fred, the bus driver, for staying alert: "He was a stud … That guy Fred was a trouper. He had shards in his face, and he was locked in on trying to get the bus slowed down."

While the bus driver suffered a few cuts, it appears everyone escaped without suffering serious injuries.
Falling ice has been quite the issue in Toronto the past few days. The Blue Jays actually had to cancel Monday’s game against the Royals after a piece of ice crashed through the roof at Rogers Centre. Workers tried to repair the hole most of the day, but they couldn’t fix it in time.
Weather has led to a number of cancellations and postponements around baseball this season. Over 20 games have already had to be re-scheduled.
Many have suggested playing more games in domes at the start of the season as a way to combat weather-related issues. But when the weather is this bad, even a dome isn’t a foolproof idea.
