Roundup: Wheatmore-Andrews football canceled over COVID-19

Apr. 10—TRINITY — COVID-19 issues at Wheatmore brought cancellation of the T. Wingate Andrews at Wheatmore football game scheduled for Friday night, the school confirmed.

The PAC-7 2A game was to have been the last of the regular season for both teams.

HP CENTRAL, RAGSDALE

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale held off High Point Central 42-35 in Metro 4A Conference football Thursday at Kenneth T. Miller Stadium.

Elijah Kennedy carried 18 times for 192 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bison, who trailed 21-14 at halftime and 35-22 heading to the fourth. Keith McDuffie Jr. also ran 13 times for 143 yards and one touchdown.

McDuffie completed 5 of 7 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns, while Kennedy caught three passes for 114 yards and one touchdown. Jomari McBride and McDuffie each had five tackles to lead the defense.

The Tigers improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Metro, taking third place, while Central finished its first season under Jacob Sheffield at 2-5 and 1-3.

SW GUILFORD, MOUNT TABOR

WINSTON-SALEM — Mount Tabor defeated Southwest Guilford 36-13 in Piedmont Triad 3A Conference football Thursday at Mount Tabor.

The Cowboys finished at 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the PTC.

BASEBALL HP CHRISTIAN, COVENANT DAY

HIGH POINT — High Point Christian defeated Covenant Day 4-2 in nonconference action Thursday at Oak View Baptist Church.

Eli Crump was 3 for 3 with a run while Cole Philbin doubled for the Cougars (10-4). Jake Dunlap had a hit and a walk, Bryson King had a hit and an RBI, and Sam Sapp and Mitch Adams each had a hit and a run.

Sapp earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out five in five innings. King allowed one hit while striking out three over the final two innings.

HPCA visits Westchester Country Day on Monday in a rescheduled PTAC game.

WESTCHESTER CD, FORSYTH CD

HIGH POINT — Westchester Country Day beat Forsyth Country Day 8-2 in PTAC baseball Thursday at Westchester.

Cook Smith went 2 for 3 with two runs while Josh Hammond went 1 for 4 with a two-run home run and two runs for the Wildcats (3-2 overall, 2-1 PTAC). Bryce Hooker added three runs, and Austin Melton had two hits and two RBIs.

Westchester will host High Point Christian on Monday at 6 p.m.

WESLEYAN, CHARLOTTE STAMPEDE

HIGH POINT — Wesleyan defeated the Charlotte Stampede 12-4 on Thursday. The Trojans improve to 6-4.

SOFTBALL GLENN, E.FORSYTH

KERENSVILLE — East Forsyth scored a run in the bottom of the eighth and defeated Glenn 3-2 in a Central Piedmont 4A contest Thursday at East Forsyth.

Riley Blake went 1 for 3, and Sydney Parsons and Riley Joyce both went 1 for 4 for Glenn (2-5, 1-2 CPC).

Erika Clinard took the loss in the circle. She allowed seven hits and an earned run while striking out eight in 7 1/3 innings.

TENNIS WESTCHESTER, GREENSBORO DAY

GREENSBORO — Greensboro Day swept visiting Westchester Country Day 9-0 on Thursday.

WESLEYAN, NW GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Wesleyan and host Northwest Guilford finished in a 4-4 when rain halted the final doubles match with Wesleyan leading 3-2 Thursday.

Winners for Wesleyan were Logan Prillaman, Luke Rudolph and Coda White in singles; and the doubles team of Prillaman and Duncan Bell.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER WESTCHESTER, GREENSBORO DAY

HIGH POINT — Addison Ragsdale and Natalie Seperteladaze scored a goal each and Westchester Country Day defeated visiting Greensboro Day 2-0 on Thursday.

Brooklyn Vogler earned the shutout in goal for the Wildcats.

WESLEYAN, SUMMIT SCHOOL

WINSTON-SALEM — Madison Casteen did all the scoring for Wesleyan Christian in a 2-1 win at Summit School on Thursday.

McKinlee Graver was in goal for the Trojans, who improved to 5-1-1.

GOLF WESLEYAN, GREENSBORO DAY

HIGH POINT — Greensboro Day finished with a 170 total and defeated Wesleyan Christian by nine strokes Thursday at Oak Hollow.

Scorers for Wesleyan were Cooper Cavanaugh (40), Ben Niebauer (43), James Borden (46) and Colton Slack (50).

LEXINGTON — Davidson-Davie Community College defeated Catawba Valley 110-80 in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 10/South Atlantic District tournament Thursday at Brinkley Gym.

DDCC plays host to Sandhills in the championship game today at 2. Both teams have earned berths in the national tournament at Danville, Illinois.

LJ Rogers scored 24 points to lead the Storm offense against Catawba Valley.

DJ SUggs had 23, Na'Zae Baltimore 13 and Josh Duproe 10.
