ROUNDUP: Red Hurricane cruises to verdict over Indiana in boys basketball action

Jan. 22—The New Castle High boys basketball team got back on track Saturday.

The Red Hurricane built a 20-point first-quarter lead and rolled to a 66-29 WPIAL nonsection victory over Indiana at Armstrong.

New Castle (12-5 overall) forged a 22-2 lead after one quarter and pushed the buffer to 38-13 at the half.

"I thought most of the stuff we worked on the last couple of days in order to do what we need to do to be better, we improved on," New Castle coach Ralph Blundo said. "That has to continue through section play.

"It was most important that we begin doing the things we need to do to win games. We have to understand what wins and the details in doing the little things right. Things like execution, grit and toughness. We're still growing. We saw marked improvement."

Damian Harrison and Ralphie Blundo netted 20 points each for the 'Canes. Kyrell Harris chipped in 13 markers.

"I thought offensively we were pretty efficient," Blundo said. "I was more concerned with our engagement defensively and how we played there."

Aaron Webb scored 10 points to pace the Indians (7-7).

New Castle (1-4 section) hosts North Allegheny (2-2, 5-9) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a crucial WPIAL Section 1-6A contest. The game opens the second half of section play.

"Obviously, they start 6-(foot)-6 and 6-9," Blundo said. "It's a must-win game for us.

"Right now, we have to focus on stacking good practices together and being ready for North Allegheny on Friday night."
