Texas’ vocal leader is holding his teammates accountable.

Inside Texas reports that Roschon Johnson is leading extra sessions for the football team.

Johnson’s effort is welcomed news, as Texas seems more focused than in past offseasons considering the Longhorns have lacked accountability in recent years.

Many coaches have stated that the best teams are player-led. There is more power in a peer and teammate modeling winning culture than in a coach’s rebuke.

The fourth-year player certainly did not hurt his influence with his 31 carry, 179-yard performance in the season finale against Kansas State. Having proven himself on the field, Johnson’s words have more meaning.

Whether or not Texas’ newfound leadership translates to wins is still to be seen. Nevertheless, with all the distractions that come with a city like Austin, the quarterback turned running back is leaving his mark on the team. Texas will look to take that focus to the field in 2022.
