Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will get the start against the Hornets originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

The Trail Blazers announced Sunday morning that they have signed six-year forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson to a second 10-day contract.

And now Hollis-Jefferson will get the start against the Charlotte Hornets Sunday.

Ahead of tip-off, Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts explained what went into the decision to start the veteran forward with point guard Damian Lillard out for the second consecutive game due to a right hamstring tendinopathy.

We just signed him to a second 10-day and with Dame out, it opened up an opportunity and to see what he can do.

“It’s an opportunity for him and it gives us a chance to see what he can do, but also, I think he can help us,” Stotts added. “I think he can defend, can rebound, provide some energy to the starting unit.”

With RHJ inserted into the starting lineup, CJ McCollum will handle the point guard duties.

Hollis-Jefferson played in two games for the Trail Blazers during his first 10-day stint, averaging 2.0 points and 1.5 assists in 6.0 minutes per game.

He first signed with the Blazers back on April 8.

Portland drafted Hollis-Jefferson 23rd overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, but then immediately traded his rights to Brooklyn in exchange for Mason Plumlee, who spent a season and a half with the Trail Blazers, and a second-round pick which became Pat Connaughton.

The Blazers and Hornets will tip-off at 4:00p.m. PT on NBCSNW, the official network of the Portland Trail Blazers.
