Ronald Acuña Jr. in record territory after hitting HR in 5th straight game

Ronald Acuña Jr.’s remarkable rookie season just made the record books.

The Atlanta Braves outfielder is in the midst of a power surge and led off a third straight game with a home run on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins.

And he wasn’t done. Acuña went on to his second home run of the game to go along with 4 RBI in a 10-6 win over the Marlins.

His third straight leadoff home run marks his fifth straight game with a home run, which puts him in the record books. It ties him for the longest streak in Braves history and makes Acuña, 20, the youngest player in MLB history to hit a home run in five straight games.

Miguel Cabrera was the only other player under 21 to hit home runs in four straight games with he did it for the Marlins in 1994, according to the Associated Press. AP also notes that Acuña is the first player to hit three straight leadoff home runs since Brady Anderson of the Baltimore Orioles did it four times in 1996.

Acuña’s leadoff home run on Tuesday comes after leading off both games of a double header against the Marlins with long balls.

Acuña was hitting .282 with 17 home runs, 39 RBI and eight stolen bases while posting an .894 OPS through 66 games prior to Tuesday.
