Adams praises Wiggins' defense, cites one improvement area originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Andrew Wiggins turned 26 years old Tuesday.

So it was only fitting that Warriors assistant coach Ron Adams went on the radio Tuesday morning and praised the No. 1 overall pick from the 2014 NBA Draft.

"Right now he's one of the two toughest guys to score against in the league," Adams said of Wiggins on KNBR's "Murph & Mac" show. "His shot-challenging has just been exceptional. Really fun to watch. Puts great effort into it and he's really a quick jumper.

"His total defensive game is coming along. He's getting better on the help side. There's not anything but positives on his defensive play."

Wiggins is defending 13.2 shots per game and holding opponents to 39.4 percent shooting, according to tracking data at NBA.com.

Those metrics truly are incredible.

And the numbers match the eye test, as there are many examples of Wiggins showing how much he values every possession.

Anything he needs to work on specifically?

"Like any player he has a few things he can improve -- we'd like to see him rebound [he's averaging 4.7 per game] a little bit better," Adams said. "But defensively he's really been sterling."

Wiggins' improvement on the defensive end helps explain why the Warriors are tied for fourth in defensive rating.

If he keeps it up, he just might earn a nod on an All-Defensive team for the first time in his career.
