There were only two games last week, as COVID-19 cases surged through the league. We have seen players head to the sidelines to go through protocols and plenty of games have been postponed.

NHL teams are scheduled to resume practices on Sunday following an extended holiday break, but play won’t resume on Monday as initially planned. The league intends to provide an update on the return of games after more testing is done.

Some players could be ready to return this week, while others will receive longer looks in prime positions. Keep an eye out on who is on the ice and who isn’t over the next couple of days.\

Now, let’s get into this week’s recommendations:

Clayton Keller (Arizona) - LW, RW - Rostered in 29% of Yahoo leagues

Keller appeared on Waiver Wired a week ago. His rostered percentage has increased from 23%, but he is still available in the majority of leagues. Keller has six goals, 10 assists and 40 shots in his past 13 outings. He has reached the scoresheet in four of his six appearances this month, while generating three goals and seven points during that stretch. Keller and Nick Schmaltz (5%) are both worthy of more fantasy attention.

Tanner Jeannot (Nashville) - LW, RW - Rostered in 27% of Yahoo leagues

Jeannot was mentioned last week as well, but he wasn’t highlighted as a top pickup because Nashville was among the teams that were shut down leading up to and through the holiday break. Assuming that the team is good to go for this week, Jeannot has plenty of fantasy appeal. He has been red hot with three goals and five assists in his past nine matches. That includes one goal and one helper on the power play along with 12 shots. Jeannot is also a good choice for banger leagues, as he has been credited with 92 hits through 30 contests.

Jaden Schwartz (Seattle) - LW - Rostered in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Schwartz has been one of Seattle’s top point producers this season. He has co-leads the team with 14 assists and sits second on the Kraken with 20 points in 28 appearances. Schwartz is a good option for the rest of the season along with Yanni Gourde (22%) and Jared McCann (27%).

Alex Tuch (Buffalo) - LW, RW - Rostered in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Tuch’s return to the lineup last week was put on hold due to postponements. However, he was ready to make his Buffalo debut and should be activated by the team shortly. Tuch is coming back from offseason shoulder surgery, but he has the ability to be an impact forward for the Sabres right out of the gate. He should be in store for a large role after he was acquired from Vegas in the Jack Eichel trade. Tuch had 18 goals, 33 points, 142 shots and 52 hits in 55 matches last campaign.

Nico Hischier (New Jersey) - C - Rostered in 22% of Yahoo leagues

Hischier notched one goal and three assists in six games prior to landing on the COVID-19 protocol list. He started to skate prior to the extended holiday break, which indicates he could be ready to play this week. Hischier has accounted for 16 points, including 13 helpers, and 45 shots through 25 contests.

Noah Dobson (NY Islanders) - D - Rostered in 18% of Yahoo leagues

Dobson has three goals and three assists in eight games, including three power-play points (one goal, two assists) over that stretch. His offensive uptick along with his 49 shots, 50 blocks and 32 hits in 24 games makes him an intriguing pickup for fantasy managers who are seeking help on the back end.

Conor Sheary (Washington) - LW, RW - Rostered in 18% of Yahoo leagues

Sheary had two goals and four assists during a five-game point streak going into the holiday break. He was credited with 12 shots and averaged just over 18 minutes of ice time per match. Sheary stepped up for the Capitals when the team was missing some key pieces due to an injury/COVID-19. He still could be worth streaming this week.

Max Domi (Columbus) - C, LW - Rostered in 13% of Yahoo leagues

Domi has generated four goals and six points in six games going into this week’s action. He has accounted for 15 points in 18 appearances, which is impressive considering he has averaged just 13:48 of ice time per contest. Domi’s average ice time per game played has increased to nearly 15 minutes during his productive six-game stretch. He could also get an increased role if Boone Jenner and/or Jack Roslovic aren’t ready to return from COVID-19 protocol this week.

Antti Raanta (Carolina) - G - Rostered in 10% of Yahoo leagues

Raanta is poised to step into the spotlight this week after Frederik Andersen was put into COVID-19 protocol on Dec. 22. If Andersen is unavailable to play then Raanta could get at least two starts this week in favorable matchups against Montreal and Columbus. He has provided four wins along with a 2.37 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in eight games played this year. Raanta is worth scooping up if you are in need of goaltending help, especially if you need a potential replacement for Andersen.

Paul Stastny (Winnipeg) - C, LW - Rostered in 8% of Yahoo leagues

Stastny racked up two goals and one assist against St. Louis on Dec. 19 to give him 15 points in 22 appearances on the season. He skated alongside Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers on a stacked top line in the contest. Stastny has plenty of fantasy upside going into this week’s slate of games.

Honorable Mention:

Dylan Strome (Chicago) - C, RW - Rostered in 2% of Yahoo leagues

It has been a tough season for Strome, who has sat frequently as a healthy scratch. He has played in six of the last seven games, though, while earning two goals and two assists. Strome also has 15 shots during that span, while playing between Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat. He is a bit of a risk given his rocky roster position, but his play of late should make it difficult to keep him out of the lineup. Brandon Hagel (3%) is another player on Chicago who has been flying under the radar from a fantasy perspective and makes for a solid option as well if Strome doesn’t meet your standards.
