Rodrigo Blankenship named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Indianapolis Colts kicker Rodrigo Blankenship was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his strong efforts in the 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 11.

Blankenship connected on 4 of 5 field-goal attempts, including the 39-yard game-winner in overtime to seal the win for Indy. He was also perfect on his two extra-point attempts.

The undrafted rookie earned his first weekly honor as he helped the Colts defeat the Packers in Week 11.

In one of Week 11’s biggest games, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Green Bay Packers, 34-31, in overtime with AFC Special Teams Player of the Week Rodrigo Blankenship lifting Indy to the win with a game-winning 39-yard kick. It was the fourth field goal of the afternoon for Blankenship who added a pair of extra points in an overall 14-point showing.

Blankenship has had the tough task of filling the shoes of future Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri, who struggled with injuries and a lack of production in 2019.

But the Georgia product has been everything the Colts could have asked for, especially in an undrafted rookie. On the season, Blankenship is 23 of 26 (88.5%) on field goals and 25 of 27 (92.6%) on extra points. He’s also second in the NFL in points scored (94) behind Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Ryan Succop (96).

The Colts have been extremely pleased with what Blankenship has done through his first 10 games and now got some recognition from the league for a gutsy performance in Week 11.
