With the Cubs, Nationals and Rockies set to impress, the National League appears balanced.

The Colorado Rockies signed All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado to a $26million deal in arbitration, the team announced on Thursday.

Arenado asked for $30m in the process but the Rockies submitted $24m, which pushed the deal to arbitration.

They ultimately settled on $26m, which breaks last year's record set by Josh Donaldson when he received $23m from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Arenado has made four All-Star teams while batting .291 with 186 home runs and 616 RBIs in six years with the Rockies.

He is due to hit free agency after the 2019 season.
