Paul underwent an MRI on Friday, which revealed the Grade-2 strain — the middle classification of hamstring strains, generally revealing a partial muscle tear. He will be re-evaluated again in two weeks.
The 33-year-old left the Rockets game on Thursday night against the Miami Heat in the middle of the second quarter while bringing the ball up the court. He could be seen instantly in pain while grabbing his leg, turning the ball over in the process.
Paul left the game and did not return. He finished with four points and four assists while playing just 12 minutes. The Heat rallied back and eventually edged out the Rockets for a 101-99 win in Miami — snapping Houston’s five-game winning streak.
Paul has missed time earlier this season with a hamstring injury, too, though has helped lead the Rockets back lately after a rough start to the season. He also missed Games 6 and 7 of the Western Conference Finals last season with a right hamstring injury, when the Golden State Warriors rallied back to take the series and reach the NBA Finals.
He is averaging 15.6 points and eight assists and four rebounds this season, playing in more than 33 minutes per game.
