Rockets’ Josh Christopher erupts for 29 points in NBA G League

Houston Rockets rookie Josh Christopher produced 29 points on Friday to help lead the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 112-105 win over the Birmingham Squadron in the NBA G League.

Christopher recorded 17 points alone in the second half as the Vipers improved to 7-0 on the season. He also recorded six rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and one steal in 34 minutes of work in his second game with the Vipers.

The 24th pick has played sparingly with the Rockets to start the season, averaging just three points in 11 appearances. He has had the opportunity to showcase his game and has looked highly effective during his first two assignments with the Vipers.

Rockets head coach Stephen Silas this week said the opportunity to play with the Vipers will be a good experience for Christopher to work on his game. The team hasn’t had much practice time, and Christopher has been able to see extended time with the Vipers.

The Rockets likely would have sent Christopher to the Vipers much sooner had it not been for the injury to Kevin Porter Jr. With Porter returning this week, the team sent Christopher to Rio Grande Valley, and he will likely spend a little bit more time there.

The Vipers have one game left on their homestand, and it is likely Christopher will play in that contest before returning to Houston. He hasn’t played much with the Rockets but has certainly flashed his potential on assignment.

Rio Grande Valley plays next on Sunday once again versus Birmingham.
