Robinson delighted with St Mirren's strength in depth
St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson believes the team spirit and strength in depth present at the club are key factors in their impressive league standing.
Lewis Jamieson scored his first goal for the club against Hibs having come off the bench, earning the Buddies a point and maintaining their grip on third place in the league.
Robinson says Jamieson more than earned his chance, and added that other squad players will be needed if they are to build on their strong start to the season.
“I think when he scored it was the quietest I had ever seen him, he didn’t know what to do," Robinson said.
“He has worked very, very hard over the last few months and he has come to the fore. There is real competition for places now and he has done that continually for two to three weeks.
“For me, what it says is that nothing goes unnoticed. Training is not a throwaway, every time you train it’s an opportunity. People say they don’t get opportunities, you get an opportunity every day at this club if you do it right and take your chances.
“Lewis has come on and taken that so players that are starting are under pressure to continue to perform, which they have done so far.
“You see all the strikers celebrating with him, it’s players who have come off the pitch and LJ has come on.
“Charles Dunne celebrates every week with Richard Taylor, who is potentially keeping him out the team in one of the areas Charles can play in. It shows the strength of the character of the boys who aren’t playing.
“They drive what’s happening on the pitch because they maintain the standards. You can’t win anything with 11 players. There’s a real togetherness, everyone is happy to succeed and we know we are going to need everyone to keep this run going.”
