Robert Kraft honors Tom Brady's cancer-conquering mom with her own Super Bowl ring

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has long referred to Tom Brady as his fifth son as a way of illustrating the fondness he has personally for his team’s franchise quarterback.

That fondness extends to Brady’s family as well.

Via Mike Reiss of ESPN, Kraft surprised the family by sending Galynn Brady, Tom’s mother, her own Super Bowl LI ring. Galynn was fighting cancer during the 2016 season, and unlike other years, was not able to attend any games during the regular season. Even when the Patriots played at the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 20, a game not far from Brady’s childhood home and where his parents still live, only Tom Brady Sr. was able to attend.

But Galynn was healthy enough that she was present in Houston for the Super Bowl, and the family posted photos the day before the game with Galynn, hugging and kissing the family matriarch who was able to be there for the biggest game of the season.

“He’s been so supportive of my family and certainly everything my mom went through and knowing first-hand how families deal with it,” Brady said. “He was always asking, ‘How’s mom doing? How is she feeling?’ We didn’t know up until the very end whether she was going to make it to the Super Bowl. She was a big inspiration for me, and RKK knew it. It was a great surprise to all of us when the ring showed up. She deserves it.”

The Boston Globe has previously reported that Galynn finished cancer treatments in April.

Kraft’s wife, Myra, died in July 2011 after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
