Gronk will return to Bucs if Julian Edelman joins him originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Two years ago, Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement to reunite with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. Now, he's hoping Julian Edelman will follow in his footsteps.

Gronk, who remains undecided on his NFL future, said he'll re-sign with the Buccaneers if his ex-New England Patriots teammate joins him.

How Tom Brady will make history (again) in Bucs' Germany game

“Oh yeah, if Julian signs with the Bucs right now, I’m coming back for a whole other year,” Gronkowski said, via Sports Illustrated. “Hands down. I was just with him last night. He needs to sign with the Bucs.”

There's been plenty of Edelman-to-Tampa speculation since he announced his retirement in 2021. The three-time Super Bowl champion even trolled fans with an April Fools' joke that tricked them into thinking he was joining the Buccaneers. And of course, it's no secret Brady would love to have his former wideout back in the fold.

Never say never, but Edelman has made it pretty clear he has no plans to come out of retirement. Between his "Foxboro Forever" message and the fact he already turned down Brady's invite to Tampa, a reunion with his former Patriots teammates seems unlikely.

As for Gronkowski, he remains a free agent after wrapping up his second season with the Bucs. The 32-year-old showed last season he still has plenty left in the tank, catching 55 passes for 802 yards and six touchdowns.
