Which roads will be closed for the Cap10K race Sunday?

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Approximately 20,000 runners and walkers will take to the streets of Austin Sunday morning for the 47th annual Statesman Capitol 10,000 race. Participants will venture across 6.2 miles through and near several downtown and central Austin neighborhoods.

With that much foot traffic expected, road closures will begin the evening before or the early morning of race day ahead of the Cap10K’s 8 a.m. start. Roads are poised to reopen as early as 9 a.m., following a rolling schedule dependent on the final participants, per the Cap10K’s website.

Here’s a breakdown of the full and partial road closures planned as part of the event.

For those needing to travel east and west during the race, the following roadways will remain opened for uninterrupted traffic:

  • Ben White Boulevard, State Hwy. 71 and U.S. Hwy. 290, from MoPac Expressway Loop 1 to Interstate 35

  • Oltorf Street from I-35 to South Lamar Boulevard

  • Barton Springs Road from I-35 to South Lamar Boulevard

  • Cesar Chavez Street (westbound only) from Colorado Street to MoPac Expressway

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from I-35 to North Lamar Boulevard

These east-west alternative roadways will be interrupted from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Congress Avenue:

  • Cesar Chavez Street from I-35 to MoPac Expressway

  • Fifth Street from MoPac Expressway to I-35

  • Sixth Street from I-35 to MoPac Expressway

These north-south corridors will also be available for uninterrupted travel access:

  • MoPac Expressway from Winsted Lane to Oltorf Street

  • Lamar Boulevard from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Oltorf Street

  • South First Street from Cesar Chavez Street to Oltorf Street

  • Congress Avenue from Riverside Drive to Oltorf Street

  • I-35 to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Cesar Chavez Street

The following north-south roadways will be interrupted between 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at 15th Street:

  • Guadalupe Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Cesar Chavez Street

  • Lavaca Street from Cesar Chavez Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

  • San Jacinto Boulevard from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Cesar Chavez Street
