River View girls edge Licking Valley

HANOVER — Prestyn Patterson and Aaliyah Better provided most of the offense for River View on Tuesday.

The duo combined for 27 points to send the visiting Lady Bears past Licking Valley 39-36 in nonleague action.

The Panthers held leads of 9-6 through one quarter and 20-15 at the half, but Better and Patterson combined for all 14 third-quarter points to pull River View within 32-29 after three quarters.

Patterson also had a key three-point play in the fourth, Better and Alivia Spaulding each had a bucket and Brie Hagans made a pair of free throws to help secure the win, as the Lady Bears improved to 1-1.

Patterson made three 3s on her way to a team-high 15 points, Better had eight of her 12 points in the second half, Hagans had five points, including a 3, Spaulding chipped in four points and Lauren Killiany scored three points to round out the River View scoring.

Karli Redfern, Sophia Crabtree and Kinsey Osborn each scored seven points for Licking Valley, which was held to four points in the fourth quarter. Emma Cubbison, Tori Mooney and Rylei Dunlap each added five points each in the loss.

River View travels to Ridgewood on Wednesday and heads to New Lexington in Muskingum Valley League action on Saturday.

River View boys 2,213, TCC 1,870: The Black Bears traveled to Wabash Lanes on Friday and earned a win over Tuscarawas Central Catholic in the season opener.

Leading the way for the Black Bears were TJ Crosby with a two game set of 383, Austin LeBeau with 378, and Tyler Bryan with 359.

The Black Bears are back in action Dec. 3 as they travel to Dover to take on Garaway.
