Clemson had already made an impact in the Sunshine State in the 2011 class, landing five-star wide receiver Sammy Watkins from Fort Myers (Fla.) South Fort Myers and five-star running back Mike Bellamy from Punta Gorda (Fla.) Charlotte. On Wednesday, it capped off the performance by landing five-star linebacker Tony Steward from St. Augustine (Fla.) Pedro Menendez.
The Tigers won a heated battled with Florida State for the services of Steward. The success in the Sunshine State can largely be contributed to the efforts of assistants Brad Scott and Jeff Scott.
With landing Steward, the Tigers landed three of the top ten prospects in Florida according to Rivals.com. A mark equaled by just Florida State.
Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland defensive back Cortez Davis is also committed to Clemson. The four-star safety is considered the No. 33 prospect in Florida.
