Riley Files: Lincoln Riley boosted Oklahoma’s blue-chip ratio

On The Riley Files, Oklahoma insider Kegan Reneau explained how Lincoln Riley increased the Sooners’ blue-chip ratio after arriving as offensive coordinator in 2015 under Bob Stoops.

“When he became the head coach, they really embraced social media,” Reneau said. “The whole social media savant, that title Lincoln Riley got, I think that started with that 2017 recruiting class and moved forward, but you gotta really think about where Oklahoma was at and where they were recruiting prior to Lincoln Riley becoming a head coach and pulling up their numbers.

“Oklahoma’s blue chip ratio increased by over 20% in 2015 when he first arrived (as offensive coordinator). Oklahoma’s blue chip ratio was at 40%. By the time that he was gone, Oklahoma was at 64%. They really kicked it up into a high gear once he got there. His energy behind him — young energy, that kind of understood social media and understood what the kids were really focusing on and hitting those notes, really helped him out.”
